Description

If you like crappy drawings then I guess you'lre like this one as well.

A sketch of the a possible Airfight I made during the break. It was hastily done but to be honest I do not think it would turn out much better had I devoted more time.

The scene depicts the superfast Messerschmitt-163 "Komet" after having destroyed a B-17-G "Flying Fortress".

I am fully aware that there were no German fighters in the are to protect the city against the firebombing but I drew this anyway. "Although 84 heavy anti-aircraft guns had been deployed around Dresden in the summer of 1944, by the middle of January, these had all been withdrawn to the east to counter the Soviet offensive. Ten Messerschmitt Me 110 night fightersof Nachtjagdgeschwader 5 based at Dresden-Klotzsche airfield were deployed against the first wave of RAF bombers, but they were ineffective because of the British radar jamming operation. A further eighteen fighters from the same unit were held on the ground because of "bad fighting conditions". Their pilots had the frustrating experience of watching the burning city in the distance while sitting in their cockpits awaiting orders to take off." -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_…

There are two more similar pictures comming up tomorow and on Saturday, in honor of the victims of the 13th, 14th and 15th February 1945 attacks on the city.

There are actually some whorrifying pictures of the aftermatch but even film footage from the British and American bombers that dropped the bombs. 722 Heavy Bombers of the British RAF and 527 of the USAAF dropped more than 3,900 tons of High Explosive and Incindiary Bombs on the city which had little to no air defence
